Someone *has* to tell the truth here... so here goes,

SD means "Secure Digital" and is a small memory card that can hold
gigabytes (or a lot of minutes of video).

The reason it is call "Secure Digital" is that everything that goes
into the card is encrypted, and gets de-crypted on the way out. This
is a bonus to the camera maker, as they can now claim *anything* you
shoot with *their* camera is automatically copyrighted *by them* !!!
The camera 'watermarks' everything you record, so the camera maker can
see instantly that the scene(s) were shot using their camera, and just
about the time you think you're going to make a million on that
once-in-a-lifetime video, they step up and claim ownership of the vid.
You, of course cannot detect the watermark without sophisticated
equipment, but the camera maker can because they have the mega-bucks
to purchase and implement such systems.
So when you catch some political figure getting assinated on your
camera, don't expect ABC, MSNBC, or any other news organization to pay
*you* for the vid, they'll pay the camera maker, because the watermark
is after all, nothing more than the camera maker's copyright message
embedded in the vid. Have fun with your new camera !!! ;o(
