I've read some forum and newsgroup comments that DVD+R DL disks are somewhat
more compatible with a wide range of set-top players when compared to DVD-R
DLs, and indeed have had 100% success (never a coaster) with each and every
Verbatim +R DL disk I have burned. I never use +R disks otherwise.
Both -R and +R DL disks are abundantly available on many web sites, and they
are indeed pricey compared to the single layer disks.
A possible explanation for the comparatively smaller supply of double layer
disks might be that most people who are ripping / copying commercial content
are apparently satisfied with the single layer copies and don't want to pay
the premium or risk the compatibility issues for the DL blanks.
