Hi All.
Like a lot of you, I'm currently re-evaluating my guidelines for what I buy
on DVD and what I want in HD Media (now or in the future). I'm personally a
big fan of buying TV shows on DVD, but I've been mostly buying stuff which
was made in SD and will never look better than SD anyway.
But... it's only a matter of time until shows that were originally shot on
film and are capable of getting a good-quality HD transfer are released on
HDM. It won't be long before the studios are considering releasing Twilight
Zone, Star Trek TOS, Gilligan's Island, etc, in HD.
The thing I'm pondering is, these releases will allow us to see the shows
with a level of clarity never originally intended by the show's creators.
While I'm sure the effect will be largely positive, is it possible that
some of the original creators might find HD to be too much of a distortion?
Are there any cases of TV shows being dependent on SD?
Just food for thought while I update my Amazon wish list...
PS: On a related note, were any of the "X-Files" seasons originally shot in
HD?
