I just bought a Denon DVD player. It has optical and coaxial outputs,
as well as analog, via audio plugs. I would like to make use of the
digital output, so I fed an optical cable from the DVD player into my
MD player from which it goes, converted to analog, to the amplifier.
This seemed to work OK both for a CD and a DVD I had here. But when I
rented a DVD film from the local rental place, the digital connection
produces no sound at all. I am able to use the analog connection. The
same thing happened with a few other rented DVDs, so it is not simply a
fault with that first DVD.
Why is it that some disks can work with the digital connection, and some
cannot?
