I wish I felt as confident as you do, but I don't. Here's some of the
reasons:

1. Audio - what a mess BD is in here. Fox does DTS-MA, yet not a
single player will handle it now, and none (except maybe PS3) has the
horsepower to make it just a firmware upgrade away.

TrueHD, yep Sony is going in this direction, as are others. Yet most BD
players don't do this one either. And the models/brands that don't have
it do not have announced firmware upgrades coming to address this issue.

7.1 LPCM - would seem to be the smart move as all players do this. But
the software guys cry about the wasting of the space. Yet others brag
about all that extra space BD has over HDDVD

2. The new spec - While I firmly believe the BD camp won't screw this
up by making movies that just won't play on the older stuff, it sure
isn't a sure bet. Hell, Sony even has a disclaimer in the OM for the
S300 about it.

For those and other reasons, this format war just isn't anywhere over
yet, Blockbuster announcement notwithstanding.

I'm still tossing about sending my Sony BDP-S300 back to Sony and
waiting for this mess to get worked out. I still have a few days to
make that decision.

That is irritating as I like BD, but the facts are HDDVD is more stable
at this point in time.
