In general, yes.
But. (There's always a but, isn't there?) Many players have trouble
with various brands of media.
The fun part: if you have (let's just say) a DVD+R burner, you may find
that the brand of DVD-R media your friend sent you play fine on your
box, and the DVD+R that you burned on your recorder doesn't play on it.
You just happened to choose the wrong brand of media, saving a few
dollars, but at the cost of some psychological pain.
It's all pretty random and a true PITA...
Many people on this and related NGs recommend Taiyo Yuden media,
available online, and many posters have had trouble with Memorex.
I often use Fry's GQ media (that stands for "Good Quality", if you can
believe it) and I seem not to have any problems. Probably because I
don't burn many discs and rarely play them back :-)
