Neither, and in particular DO NOT install the K-Lite pack unless you
like editing the registry to fix up all the things it breaks. Always
install only the specific codec required for playback. Codec packs
break lots of underlying stuff and should be avoided.
MPG file extensions may contain either of MPEG1 or MPEG2 video.
They do not (or should not) contain MPEG4 video, which is what DivX
provides, so while it's useful to have DivX decoders anyway, it won't
help playback here.
You can use Deccheck to determine if you have any MPEG2 decoder
installed on your PC, otherwise you'll likely have to purchase one

NVidia and ELecard provide MPEG2 (DVD) decoders on 30 and 21 day
trials respectively - after that due to licensing costs for the
patents held by MPEG-LA, you'll have to pay for those decoders.

MPEG1 video should be supported in windows media player, but if it's
broken you can update DirectX to version 9.0c : DirectX comes with an
MPEG1 decoder which should fix that problem.
