Different engineers and/or interface designers have different ideas. Of
course, it's nice to be creative, but I think that users could stand a
bit of consistency :-)

Sometimes it might just be yet another case of the NIH syndrome (not
invented here). Sort of "I want to do it *my* way", where "my" means
belonging to the particular design group in question.

OTOH, the position memory button (which I've never seen) sounds like a
great idea - very clear-cut, for a welcome change.
