If you're uncertain of your player's performance capabilities
and you will be encoding your own xvid (or divx) files then use
the Mad Man Muntz approach. Build the best possible conversion
parameters for the best possible quality. If your player
doesn't play it, remove one parameter at a time until it does.
But seriously, many of the "certified" players will not play
Qpel or GMC encoded files. In addition to your other likely
params, enable these and check it out. If it plays great! Just
don't expect it will play anywhere else but a PC.
I've had problems with some players losing a/v synch when I
encode at 2 mbps video, 192 kbs audio. That does not mean that
I chose to reduce or alter my specs, I simply shed those
players.
