When you play a DVD that has been encrypted, aren't you circumventing
copy protection?
If you read the law carefully, you will see that there are numerous
exceptions to the blanket prohibition of circumventing copy
protection.
You have only given the original law passed by congress. Missing are
all the cases where the law was overturned in part, all the instances
of court challenges, etc.
Then there is the intent of the law. The law is intended to prohibit
distribution. Copying for one's own use is not distribution. Making
copies for sale is illegal.
