You know, you can't have it both ways. Nappy says Bush is right because
the Democrats agreed with him. You say the Democrats were wrong.

By all means, let's bring back the McCarthy era.

You sound like a patriot. Maybe that's a good quality. If it is,
wouldn't you say that one of the greatest things about America is your
freedoms and liberties? It has always baffled me that "patriots" seem
to be the most supportive of all of the new legislation designed to
allow the government to pry into your private affairs, without even a
warrant. The one quality of conservatives I had always formerly admired
was their passionate defense of individual liberty and freedom from
government intrusion into your lives-- the "nanny" state, if you will.

I'm genuinely sad that this appears to be a complete charade. The
government can now eavesdrop on your conversations without even the
slightest judicial oversight-- and most conservatives obviously don't
really care at all. So what was it that you really liked about America?

Are you disturbed by the "rendition" program, shipping people to states
that use torture? I thought Americans loved the Constitution? How
about Gitmo? Does that bother you at all? Does it bother you that the
government has held people in custody, in solitary confinement, for over
5 years without providing any evidence of any illegalities whatsoever,
or even changing the charges at the last minute in order to prolong
custody? Some American judges were outraged. Where is the public
outcry?

Or is "freedom" just a catch-phrase, something you speak reverently
during election campaigns, but doesn't actually mean a thing.

Please don't respond that "well, they are terrorists". The benchmark of
a democracy is that the courts, after hearing evidence, determine if
someone is a criminal or not, not the government.
