By changing the parameters of the file to be saved. An easy way is to
load the wave into Windows Sound Recorder, select "Save as" then push
the "Change" button at the bottom and select the parameters
(attributes) desired.
The standard wave is 44,100Hz 16 bit stereo; it uses 172 KB per
second. The lowest rate available (on my system, yours may vary) is
8,000Hz 8 bit mono and it uses 8KB per second...less than 1/20th of
the standard. Sound quality varies inversely to the rate.
You didn't mention doing so but you can't burn the scrunched down
waves to an audio CD.
