I just did it (Well a couple of months ago) - followed all the instructions
and have had no problems.
Mine does load to the new drive.
I assume you have done:
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > "iTunes Music folder Location" >
Change
?
Otherwise I would guess there is a problem with your iTunes installation
and it needs to be reinstalled.
