1/4-inch diameter by 20 threads per inch. ("1/4-20")
for smaller cameras. 3/8-20 for larger cameras.
Note that if you want to end up with the industry-standard
1/4-20 threads, you have to tap the hole *larger* than that
to accomodate the HeliCoil insert.
Note further that the tripod holes in the bottom of cameras
tends to be very shallow and "dead-end" which would not
permit you to re-tap for HeliCoil.
However, in many of the cameras I have used the threaded
piece is screwed on and can be replaced (because you are
not the first user to have the threads go bad.)
