Anyone who has watched Departed should compare it to the
original film: Mou gaan dou (2002) - Infernal Affairs.

It is the same story, without the boring background (e.g. youth-
scenes), without Nicholson and much shorter.
This makes it not an epic, but rather a sharp film to the point.
In comparing, the scenes that Scorsese added did nothing for
me (!).
While I think di Caprio gave his best peformance ever, the character
in the original was as good and as believable.
Nicholson was his usual bad - and while I think he can act, this was
an overplayed and therefore not needed performance.
The Departed felt to long, even without knowing it was a remake.
