How 'bout this: I called SOCAN. They don't know.
I'm not kidding. In fairness, they have promised to call me back this
afternoon after digging around to find more information. I asked about
weddings as well: again, they don't know.
This is Canada only, friends. When I get a response, I'll let you know.
Interesting, by the way, that they did not say: "of course it's
copyright violation and you have to pay us!" The woman I talked to
speculated unofficially that the rights might be covered by the dance
company or the DJ at a wedding, but couldn't say for sure.
