I believe PTravel said that is exactly what his workaround is.
But he is forced to do it because of the FW port, rather than
doing it to save the VX2000 transport.

OTOH, he could advertise the lower head drum hours
because he never used it for capture. It might partially
make up for the loss of value from the broken FW. :-)

You also lose the ability to feed the live video into your laptop
to capture to hard drive, or to feed into an external Firestore,
or to use for webcam-type applications, etc.

I have an early-generation DSR-300 and frequently miss the
Firewire port (which was added in later generations :-((
