Sounds like optical misalignment.
I presume you can't manually achieve the normal full range of focus. ie from
infinity to close up.
If you can manually do that then the lens is ok it's justt he auto focus
gone to pot.
If however you can't actually manually achieve the correct focus the auto
focus won't have a hope.
Camera been dropped or bashed recently?
