I'd say the movie studios are missing a trick in terms of sales .
Quite frankly , If i buy a dvd box set of something then i will watch it
once and then chuck the dvd box set in the cupboard next to be seen
again .
As such i dont buy many dvd box sets .
(1) becuase the fancy box means jack shit to me
(2) i never watch any of those extra features crap
So , It could be argued that i dont buy their product only because of
the way its packaged and because of how much it costs .
What i as joe punter wants in terms of a box set is dvd disks in a thin
paper holder and doesnt have any extra features .
I'm not saying that the normal style of glossy fancy pants dvd box sets
should be done away with - what i'm suggesting is that the movie studios
offer a basic no frills 2nd alternative for the type of viewer who will
watch a dvd once and then chuck them into a cupboard .
As you can imagine the no frills dvd box set version should work out at
no more than £1 per disk .
As a example lets pick the tv series 24 , Theres no way in hell i'd buy
a fancy pants dvd box set of it , But if i could buy a 24 box set in my
local petrol station for £7 or whatever then yes i would .
I would also buy same £7 dvd box set via the internet if it could be
posted and put through the letter box without there needing to be
somebody in the house to sign for it .
To sum up , Millions of pounds in lost sales is just chucked away
because the movie studios have never asked the question of how x percent
of people want things packaged and how much they are prepared to pay .
The same could be said about the soft core porno channel red hot thats
on freeview every night .
Paying £5.99 via a credit card is no way , But if they offered a option
where you could dial a number at a fixed price of £1 that would appear
on your phone bill as a normal charge then yes i as 'wanker' would
probably pay £1 a week if i took the notion to watch 20 minutes of soft
core porn or whatever before heading to get some kip .
