Funny that pioneer is the only maker to have this problem, even though
they started the optical disc format decades ago.

Also, there system must have some base level flaws to "lock up" the way
it does, regardless of their claim that the problem is firmware. If an
non-compliant (from their POV) disc is inserted, a properly designed
device would simply not have any function to utilize that disc, not
fucking completely lock up, and disallow so much as an eject sequence.
Very bad design and programming on Pioneer's part, and I'll bet that
there has not been a drive made since those models that sport such an
issue when an "unknown" media type is inserted.
