Those kind of numbers supported the vastly superior to vhs/beta tape
laserdisc format for over a decade.
Also understand, the HD disc formats are barely a couple years old. Back
when laserdisc or further back when vhs and beta tapes where introduced, it
took several years for the public to embrace the respective formats.
There *is* a demand for HD hard disc content. The entertainment industry is
shooting themselves in the foot with the two competing formats and the odds
are one or the other will pull ahead forcing the studios to line up behind
the dominant format sooner rather than later.
