device manager shows up a 'virtual keyboard'. i deleted it, rebooted,
gone. also tried a couple of other keyboards. same story.
frankly i've had enough of it. i'm going to get another ex hd to leave
hooked on the pc (straightforward usb rather than firewire since i only
use it for backing up projects i'm working on), and the other, the
xcraft, for some totally unexlicable reason appears to work normally if
plugged into the usb port on the front of my pc. mother board giga ds3p.
though why it works on the front port but not the back is yet another
box of tricks that i'm not interested in sorting out....

my local geek pointed me to m$'s sp3 rc1 - said it gave a 10% increase
in speed. he wasn't kidding. and it seemed stable on my office pc i
moved it across to the edit pc (long before this ex hd problem started).

i hope 2008 is simpler
