You may find the inf under c:\windows\inf
In that file you may find the name of the offfending DLL.
This is of course a nasty way to do it but I've had to do it in the past
when there was no actual device that existed to make removal of the dirver
complete.
Seems you have already attempted to remove or uninstall the driver when the
drive is plugged in?
If there is a driver installed for the drive, and there should not be I
believe, you ought to remove that too.
Then see what XP does when you reboot and reinsert the drive..
