I know that BluRay's hard coat technology makes a far harder surface on
the optical read side of the disc than the original pressed media
stampings. Harder IS harder. Just basic physics. The HD DVD still uses
the same pressing media as DVDs, and is VERY susceptible to data errors.

A few scratches, and the disc freezes up. I have returned three. ALL
were goddamned dual mode disks.

I now check ALL of my disc purchases right at the sales counter and
immediately refuse any purchase where I find a scratch or mar on the read
side of any of the disks in a given package.

All my library is mint and pristine, and short of a fire, I intend for
them to remain that way.

The best cleaning method for an optical disc is to never touch the
damned thing on the read surface to begin with.

Just like a camera lens. Keep it capped, and don't touch it when it is
open. The only thing that should touch it are photons.
