At the end of last year, I decided to pick up the combo blu ray & hd-dvd
reader/dvd writer that LG makes and shoved it in an external SATA
optical drive case with eSATA & USB2.

Works great with my PC using PowerDVD Ultra, although the monitor is
only a 22" 1680x1050 one, but I'll be forking out for a 1080p tv in 5
month's time.

Only buying films that I really, really want for it though and decided
that I'll mainly go for Blu Ray as I thought it'll have the most chance
of success, except where the HD-DVD also has a DVD layer (so if both
disappear I'll still be able to watch them - albeit at standard
definition. Though I suspect some sort of combo drive will be available
for a while to come.
