It does sound like your machine is just getting past it. If your happy
with Philips stuff I would consider the newer machine for that kind of
price, it should certainly be capable of handling the newer discs
anyway.
I should think that your old machine will be put to shame by the
capabilities of that £75 one, looking at this info on it
"Philips DVD Recorders support dual media recording - the ability to
create recordings on DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R DL discs. Now you
can buy any disc and Multi-format playability allows you to play most
file formats for maximum listening and viewing pleasure, including
MP3, WMA, JPEG and the popular DivX digital"
But note it has only an analogue tuner and for £130 they have the
Philips with a hard drive built in, which adds a lot more to the
capabilities of a recorder.
