Hi all,
I have converted a couple of DV videos to DVD with disappointing
results...I get some very apparent aliasing (jagged edges) as well as
quite a bit of blocking/artifacting. The original source is VHS
(captured to DV using an external input device).

I believe the artifacting is simply a problem with bitrate...my old
(non-progressive) DVD player has artifacting problems, the new one
does not. This is just speculation on my part.

The aliasing is the confusing part. I just don't know how to clean it
up. Viewing is currently on standard definition TVs, but I would like
to make sure the output is adequate for high-resolution displays as
 well.
Is there anything I can/should do with the captured DV (720x480) to
improve the quality? I've heard that de-interlacing is used to make
interlaced video look better on PC, but from what I gather that
 degrades quality on standard displays.

Any tips and/or software recommendations would be appreciated.
For VHS encoding, should I be trying a lower bitrate? I'm currently
using variable 6Mbps (the default in my software). FWIW, I've been
using Pinnacle Studio 11. Not the best by a long stretch, but it
should be good enough for my purposes...

 Cheers,
 Dave
