Thanks for enlightening me.
I must say that I find it utterly incredible that a firm like Philips,
with its absolutely dire quality control, more or less owns Panasonic,
which makes what I've found to be some of the most reliable equipment
around. I've long held that Philips has first-class R&D coupled with
fifth rate production. I've had such bad experiences that I wouldn't
touch Philips equipment again. But I've always been very happy with
Panasonic kit.
Incidentally, my sister used to be married to the son of a Philips
research engineer, with the result that her house had quite a lot of
Philips stuff. She's now been divorced from him for five years or so,
and has next to no Philips stuff left. It's all dead. Her Philips TV
died after only four years, which I thought pretty poor. My Panasonic
TV lasted nine years... and has been replaced by another Panny.
