what about authoring software? (Re: Toshiba's New Marketing Campaign Is "Proving Effective")

I'm worried about (yet) another thing in this format war. I believe
it was in alt.tv.tech.hdtv some weeks ago that someone mentioned all
Blu-Ray authoring software are forcing everything to be converted
(recompressed) to MPEG4 -- while HD-DVD authoring apps can use MPEG2
as-is without such conversion (maybe some re-muxing but otherwise
essentially "lossless"). HD-DVD ought to be able to use MPEG4 as-is
also (depending on the codec used in the source). Can someone shed
more light on this, please? Right now it seems to me that HD-DVD is
more "versatile". I know "data disks" can store anything, but I'm
mainly talking about the authoring apps & standalone players y'know.

Also, I have yet to see support from Apple or Mac third-parties for
HD-DVD -- Roxio Toast has a kext for Blu-Ray support (I do have that
pkg), I just don't know about the other "pro video" apps (costly).

Thanks for letting me chime-in about this.
