I have one of these units and had exactly the problem you described.
With me it occurred with DVD-RW discs, and returned the "disc error"
message. After sending it back to the repair facility in Illinois, it
returned with the same problem. I got on the phone and talked to a
supervisor (named Jason, I think) in Texas, and he clearly knew about
the issue, told me to return to their Texas factory. A couple of weeks
later they sent me back a replacement (refurbished) unit, that has
worked perfectly so far (for about 3 months).
So I suggest calling the help number and refusing to take no for an
answer until you get to someone who knows about this issue and can
authorize a replacement unit.
