I believe you. That's because the manufacturers did not have so many
bad lots because of all the new factories.
We have entered a new era and past experience is no longer an
indicator of present performance. The consensus on CDFreaks is that if
you absolutely must have a guaranteed good disc - you are unwilling to
take any chances - then you have to get TY because all other
manufacturers have succumbed to recent pressures to meet market demand
and that has resulted in an inordinate number of bad lots making their
way to the store.
I had 11 coasters out of 92 Verbatim MCCs which is no one's idea of a
good lot. The dye splotches were large where the disc was defective. I
have never had that kind of problem, not even with crap discs. The
problem I have had with crap discs is that they won't play after 6
months.
Another problem is that the manufacturers claim they are making faster
burn discs. The recommendation for longevity is to burn at a slower
speed if you have 16x discs, say 12x or even 8x. If you have 8x, then
you can burn them at 8x.
