No other way if you want to choose what you watch in RGB, because most TVs
only have one RGB SCART, so you would need an external RGB switch or put
up with encoded composite on the other inputs.

Maplins do a thing they call a "Smart SCART" which automatically selects
the lowest numbered input that has a signal on it, so in a simple
installation you can make all selections from remote controls simply by
powering devices on and off. Could be tricky with lots of inputs if some
of them are devices that switch on automatically to make timed recordings
though, as this would also switch what you see on the TV. In this case you
should consider the switch boxes made by Vivanco and sold in Comet or
Currys (can't remember which), and which default to automatic operation
when switched on but can be manually overridden. Expect to pay about
35GBP. Don't be tempted by the cheaper ones that have lots of SCART
sockets but no buttons and don't explicitly say on the packaging that they
are switches, because they will just parallel the inputs.

As you wish, but a more flexible arrangement would be to put the VCR into
the AV4 input of the Panasonic DVD recorder (using a SCART to phono
adaptor on the VCR if necessary). This input is composite, but the VCR
will be composite anyway, and you'll probably only want to use it to
transfer vital old recordings to disk before eventually throwing it away.
I mean, you don't actually plan to record anything on VHS do you?

Rod.
