Only bought this cheap and don't expect much from Matsui - although Currys
had them all on playing side-by-side and the picture seemed to compare okay.
The problem is that on original brand-new condition DVDs, 4-5 times per
movie the picture freezes for 8-10 seconds, pixels appear and then it
carries on.
I'm guessing that alot of these have been returned (judging by the sheet
number of refurbished units on Ebay) and I'm guessing they have been
instructed to avoid taking them back.
Currys said they will have to test it and watch for problems before deciding
to refund. But that these frequent picture freezes, I was told, are counted
as normal operation for this machine, not a fault - and that this is a layer
change taking place.
I said, okay, if it did it once, but surely the disc does not change layers
4-5 times during a movie. I was assured that this is the case. And that I'd
be fine playing 'single-layer' original discs. Just wondered how many movies
are released on single-layer dvds?
Any advice/comments. As I said, I didn't expect anything much from Matsui.
But neither am I prepared to chuck away 79 on faulty goods.
Cheers - Keith
