Your approach is good, but there's a catch :-( If you have a shaky footage,
the shake increases when you zoom in. If your subject is moving, you have
another problem (this one can not be solved). To decrease the shake you can
try to use the motion option, not only to zoom in, but also to "center" the
subject. First, zoom in, see where your subject is and by using the "Motion"
option move the subject in aprrox same position on the screen. Of course,
you can't zoom in too tight, you must have enough "operating space". This is
a very boring and time-consuming procedure, because (depending on the
"shakiness") you must aplly motion option to every frame that is out of
"centre". I use it sometimes to remove shake from my footage taken from the
moving car. The results are relatively good, but I do this only if I have
enough time.
