That is why there are lots of 3rd party sources of information,
including websites, instructional videos, Adobe's own online
forum, and this newsgroup,etc.

A great many (most?) of us are monitoring both video and
audio on our firewire device (camcorder/VCR). For the
reason that the video image on the computer screen is not
representative of how the video really looks.
If you don't want to play the timeline into the Firewire
device, disconnect it or turn it off, and Premiere will
revert back to video and audio on the PC.
