Vegas 5 doesn't have native MPEG import capabilities. It will import VOB
files from a DVD (if that's what you and the OP are referring to) but it's a
bit clunky.
With the latest update though (6.0c), Vegas now has the option to "import
DVD camcorder disc". This works for regular DVDs as well.
This option is also available in Vegas MovieStudio+DVD which is a LOT
cheaper than Vegas+DVD ($90 vs. $675) and, for a lot of users, will be more
than enough for their needs.
