Small lav mics which are directional are the minority and
tend to be more expensive. They are also more prone to
wind and handling noise, etc. Worse, unless you put the
mic right next to the talker's lips, they won't really separate
the ambient noise from the desired sounds.

You could try one of the very small/nearly-invisible head-
set mics (like the DPA, etc.) But those things cost $500-
$1500. There are some cheaper alternatives.

The only reliable solutions to your noise problem are:
1) Select quieter locations to shoot
2) Put the microphone right next to the talker's lips
(by whatever method) to increase the Signal-to-noise
ratio.
3) Replace the dialog in a sound studio

Note that there is a newsgroup where this subject is
discussed frequently by professionals who record the
sound for the TV and movies you see every day....
