The only way I have found to fix things like that are...
1) Carefully and consciensously de-install and remove all
the old, demo, unused applications you can.

2) If that doesn't fix it, re-install ("repair") the Windows
install. If you run Windows install on a computer which is
already running Windows, it will attempt to "repair"
(actually overwrite) any operating system files, drivers,
DLLs, etc it thinks are "damaged".

3) If that doesn't fix it, back up all your data, make sure
you have the installation discs, serial numbers, etc, and
wipe the C:\ drive and re-install everything from scratch.
