Two thoughts about this, from practical experience:
1) The synchronising flash is a good idea, but be aware that an
electroniic flash CAN be less than a video frame in duration. (Using
Pinnacle LE) I had temporarily to set the computer monitoring to show
interlaced fields to make sure that the flash appeared. If I left the
monitor on either odd or even fields it would often appear that the
flash hadn't been captured by one of the cameras because it was on the
'other' field.
2) I have the Multicamera facility available now on LE, but
previously I found it useful to put my camera streams onto the timeline
(synching them by flash, handclap, whatever) and then shrink each
stream in size so that you effectively got Picture-in-Picture
thumbnails. It was then possible to observe the multiple streams
moving in synch to make choosing the shot changeovers easier -- it also
made it easy to see if one camera had been paused, and the synch lost.
After the editing, the streams could be returned to full screen. (Note
that this works best when you can apply an effect to a whole stream --
if you have to go back and delete the effect from every single clip, it
can be very time-consuming. LE6 permits this -- don't know about
current versions of other editors.)
