Specs,
I haven't been 14 years old in over 50 years, so your assessment of my
immaturity and inexperience is entirely wrong. I started using newsgroups in
the early 1980s and have been with Arpanet and Usenet since the start. In
fact, I ran an amateur teletype station doing newsgroup communication
starting in the early 60's, so I bristle at your insinuation that there is
some naive or inexperienced notion here.
If you are trying to convince me that somebody is mining this or other
newsgroup manually and decoding / reading each email to render email
addresses useless or to take an email address to achieve identity theft,
then I would reply that you as well as Nappy are way beyond reasonable
precautions for identity theft. I would spend a lot more effort worrying
about credit cards, drivers license, social security information, medical
information, and a thousand other things before I would deliberately avoid
sending a manually encoded email address to someone who has offered to help
me convert an HDV file I could not process.
And by the way, since you are so generous in offering an opinion.......could
you please suggest a way that the original poster could send me his HDV
file. I find it very revealing that the critics like you and the "straight
talker" like Nappy have absolutely nothing to offer as an alternative
approach. You seem to ready to complain and challenge, but I have yet to see
an offer to help the original poster or suggest a way to get his problem
solved.
