James C. Allison:
Hey Ryan, how are you this afternoon?
The audio not playing was due to an unreasonable expectation by myself that
the audio would play over the TV speakers.
So this morning, I hooked up the PC Speakers to the Sound Blaster Audigy
MP3+ and VIOLA' there IS sound on not only the clip being captured, but on
the subsequent preview of the captured clip, AND after it is dragged into
the Timeline. So THAT problem is solved.

Well, leaving the Firewire cable connected doesn't matter in this case
apparently.

GREAT! But as my discussion with Richard Crowley concluded, since I can do
everything necessary to do captures by seeing the images on the TV Monitor,
not having the image show in the MovieCapture window is no big deal. STILL,
it would be nice to get that all working. The tape transport controls DO
work in the Movie Capture Window.
And there has been a further development here. The Matrox RT2500 will work
as just a Firewire Capture Card when using all the generic DV stuff in
Premiere. BUT what I was trying to do was use the Matrox stuff in doing the
Premiere process.
This morning I found that one HAS to use the "Matrox Video Tools" if one is
to use the Matrox programs to do captures. And I found that THAT is the
reason that they wanted the monitor resolution to be set at 1024 X
(whatever), because the window that the Matrox Video Tools uses is much too
big to be seen with the resolution that I'm using in Premiere.
So I go into Control Panel > Display > Matrox G450 > and change the
resolution to what they designate, and sure enough, the window becomes the
size of the monitor. BUT at that resolution, I get an image only on one
monitor (the other one goes Black).
AND I get a notice that the IEEE 1394 (JVC MiniDV Cassette Deck) can't be
found, and to make sure it is connected and turned on.
Anyway, I'm progressing by leaps and bounds. Not that I'm solving ALL the
problems, but the progress is steady by jerks... :)
If you can somehow figure out how to get the MovieCaptureWindow to show an
image, everything would be as it should be, other than Matrox Video Tools
not being able to find my IEEE 1394 device.
My next step is to follow Richard Crowley's recommendation and find an
RT2500 Discussion Group.
Anyway, thanks for the very nice response, and I hope this finds you doing
well.
