we use LE6.0 (Avid's L7 predecessor) for producing a 30" television show
that airs over several localized networks and it works great for us. we
considered LE6 and Avid Xpress Pro and because of other equipment needs at
the time took the LE6 route and have not been unhappy at all. i personally
like the "all-in-one" application and the numerous support through
pinnacle's user group, let alone the awesome tutorial packages out there for
under a 100 bux.
if i had the $2K for AXP i'd probably opt for that too since we'll be
indulging into movie making later this year or early next year, but for now
we love LE6 and will shortly be upgrading to AL7 after all the bugs are
worked out which may have happened with the 7.1 or 7.2 current issue. the
FAST rendering engine in LE6/AL7 is powerful and allows you to just keep on
working without stopping while the engine is busy in the background doing
its' task.
i personally recommend at least 3.0 ghz processor and 1+mb ram, with
separate audio and video cards (to get the tasks off the MB) and definately
one or two data drives, NEVER use the system drive for data storage, too
much info going back and forth on the drive AND 7200rpm drives are a must!
we use a dual core machine and it cooks with LE6.
