Man.. you are truly out there..
First of all.. you can't render everything with a GPU.
Those others that are trying to play catch-up.. They sell 100 times the
amount that Liquid has. So they're probably not worried.
I think you are missing the fact that for most projects anymore there is
practically no rendering. Hence no need for background rendering. If you are
doing a DV show with cuts and some transitions on PPro for example you won't
be waiting for rendering. I use a render farm for Combustion, AE and
3DSMax.. never needed background rendering on our NLE. On the AVID DS, when
I worked on it, we turned off the background rendering to speed up the
interface.
Background rendering is nothing new. The question of whether it is necessary
or not is becoming moot.
