You don't pose a specific question.
I would put the DVD recorder first in the signal line:
Input->DVD->VCR->TV
A DVDR is not like a VCR in that it does not output
program material on Channel 3. In order to play the
DVDR you will have to use the A/V output to the TV.
If your TV has two A/V inputs you can use the second
for the VCR.
If you have a cable box put the A/V output to the DVDR.
If you have a DVDR with a hard disk you should record all
your programs on the HD which gives you the option of
archiving them.
