 That's exactly how I do it.
 
 Recently I have been playing with MPEG4 (AVI, DivX, etc.) because the
 quality is just as good as DVDs but a helluva lot smaller. My ILO
 DVDR05MU1 can play most and if it can't I use WinAvi or
 TotalVideoConverter to fix it. Eventually I am going to go to
 AVI/MPEG4 on a hard disk and network the player - then no more tedious
 DVD authoring or shrinking.

 I had one movie clip that VRD's Quickfix would not fix so I had to use
 VRD's synch facility. It worked perfectly once I found out how much to
 set it for.
 
 Then there was one clip that not even VRD could fix, so I had to play
 the DVD into a DVDR and then export the clip. That was before I got
 into MPEG4 so maybe WinAvi or TVC would fix it.
