If you rename the vobs as mpg files, you can edit them quite easily
with something like this:
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tme.html. Unfortunately it's not
a freebie, but it is very good.
For free, you could use Virtualdub, or one of it's derivatives --- but
it takes a bit of working out!!
