We just happen to be polar opposites on this issue, no problem, nothing
personal.
But all the 'experimental' stuff I've seen with people who take Nappy's
suggested approach looks like shite. invariably, it leads to
pretentious, self-indulgent, loosely-organized ramblings trying hard to
seem relevant. Bad framing, composition, lighting, and editing, passed
off as being 'avant-garde'. Star wipes on every transition, for you
Simpson's fans out there. If you have infinite time and money to
experiment your way to competence, God bless you. But I think learning
some basics first and understanding why certain things are done a
certain way after 100 years of trial and error is the proper foundation
before you go out of the way to 'break all the rules". It's the
difference between dilletante hobby/home movie makers and people trying
to become pros. But that's just one guy's opinion.
