Another model of TBC that can be had for not a whole lot used is the
Alta Pyxis E. The Pyxis E (not the older Pyxis, which was a 16-line
TBC requiring advance sync) is actually a combination production
switcher & 2-channel full-frame infinite-window TBC & frame store. The
Pyxis E actually houses 2 TBCs, one for each of the buses for the
switcher (each bus has two inputs, for a total of four inputs) for
synchronization of the video between buses for flawless
fades/dissolves/cuts/what have you. It works great as a standalone TBC
though (with proc-amp style controls for each bus/TBC), and it also has
Genlock inputs as well.

I have two of these units (one for my studio, another for on-location
work), and I was able to pick up one used on eBay for an ending bid of
$76, and I also bought another one used from a video production company
for $110. Plus, they're manufactured quite well and sturdy.
