Assuming you're not considering HDV, my personal suggestion would be a
Panasonic DVX-100B but, at $3900 Cdn. (you are in Canada, right?),
that's out of your price range.
Spend some time at http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ checking through the
reviews and forums there. Definitely look into a 3 CCD model as the
low light performance will (usually) be better than a single chip
model.
Don't forget to budget for other items such as a tripod, microphones
(both wired and wireless) and perhaps lights.
Do a google search on this forum as this has been discussd numerous
times and there are a lot of good suggestions for various makes/models.
For online shopping, http://dvshop.ca/ is my favourite Canadian site
and http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ is my favourite U.S. site.
Good luck with the new (part time) career.
Mike
