well stated. moreover, just think, obviously mac too realizes the value of
windows/pc based applications since they too wanted to be able to run the
same. is there such a desire from the pc manufacturers? i've not heard of
one myself, in fact, i don't know a single pc user having even the slightest
desire to have or for that matter use a mac.
however, i do know one shop about 20 miles away whose operators at that
station come to our place on occassion (about 3 to 5 times a month) to do
some neat little tricks on our pc's because it takes their system something
like 7 hours to render or process while xpress pro on our dual core kicks it
out in about 60-65 minutes. i know our g5's just cracked their cases when
we tried it (which we were told cooked the one that needed repair) and got
so hot we thought about putting them in a cooled cabinet. our gateway dual
processor barely heats up, kicking the multispeed fan to the second speed
out of five speeds and the dual core to the third speed a couple times
during the processing while taking about the same time only occassionally an
extra 10 minutes or so.
while our machines do their work, we talk shop and then they take their
project back for the last news . . which their mac's can't turn around in
the time they have from capture to the news (a time of about 5 to 6 hours)
but then can on our pc's. love those guys . . they (the tv station) pays us
machine time . . the resulting amount monthly equals our electric bill with
enough left for buying a 3# can of coffee, creamer, and sometimes donuts
from dunkin' donuts nearby.
thus, we should actually love mac's then huh? we get paid for people coming
to use our pc's when their mac's crap on a particular job. however, we
don't. our own experience sucked although we seldom tell the whole story,
just usually saying "we switched" because pc's and avid were the best
solution . . however, since this thread got a little personal, just wanted
to dump the whole mac/crap out for the whole world to see. we're on record
with a formal complaint at mac because we wanted them to know what an
injustice they did to us.
drd :o)
